FTTN vs FTTH

2023-02-21

Fiber internet is a type of broadband connection that uses fiber-optic cables to transmit data as light pulses.

Fiber can offer faster speeds and lower latency than other types of internet connections, such as cable or DSL. Fiber internet is also more reliable and less prone to interference than copper wires.

There are different types of fiber internet that vary in how the fiber-optic cables are connected to the customer's home or business. Two common types are FTTN and FTTH.

FTTN: (Fiber-to-the-Node)

FTTN means that fiber-optic cables run to a central node near a neighborhood, and then use existing copper or coaxial lines to connect to each customer's home.

FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home)

FTTH means that fiber-optic cables run directly to each customer's home without any intermediate connection.

FTTH is generally faster, more reliable, and less affected by weather or distance than FTTN. However, FTTH is also more expensive and difficult to install than FTTN.

There are also other types, such as FTTC (Fiber-to-the-Curb), FTTP (Fiber-to-the-Premise), and FTTD (Fiber-to-the-Desk) . Each type has different advantages and disadvantages depending on the distance, cost, and speed involved.
